Laurie Cave is a native of Pennsylvania and the head of Grier's art department. Her father was an artist and art professor and her mother was a costumer. Her childhood was filled with the scent of linseed oil and the crunch of taffeta. Long hours in studio were an early way of life for the whole family. Laurie's formal art study took place at the Ivy School of Professional Art.
Her first “art
job” was art editor of the Seattle Sound News in the early 70’s. This was quickly replaced by the more adventuresome occupation of welder at Lockheed
Shipyard.
Discovery and life-long learning are important to Laurie. Workshops at the Torpedo Factory, College of Santa Fe, Bennington, and University of the Arts
are a few of her favorite learning experiences.

Yong Sook Kim-Lambert was born and grew up in Seoul, South Korea. She earned a B.F.A. at Hong- Ik University in Seoul, a university famous for the quality of its art department. In the years following her graduation, she taught art and started her career as a professional artist. She entered several exhibits and received awards, including the award for most promising young talent at an exhibit in Kyoto, Japan, in 1986.
She met her husband François (also a teacher at Grier) in 1986 while he was teaching in Korea. They founded a family and moved to Canada where Mrs. Lambert pursued her career as a painter and completed several post-graduate courses. In the years since then, she has spent time traveling in several countries, such as Japan, France, and Indonesia – experiences which have helped to shape both the person and the artist. These experiences make her an asset in an environment as diverse as that of the Grier School.
Mrs. Lambert joined the Grier School in 2001 and has since taught watercolor, weaving/fiber art (batik). Also, she has led three annual two-week trips to Paris over our Spring break. She loves the ethnic diversity and the intimate setting of the Grier community where she tries to act as a catalyst in the production of creative works of art by young women.
