The Grier School is an independent boarding school for girls located just outside Tyrone, Pennsylvania, USA. Grier's Central Pennsylvania location is easily accessible to the nearby cities of Altoona and State College, home to Penn State University. Grier's 300 acre campus offers students a rich variety of educational experiences in a very secure setting. The school community is friendly and supportive.
Founded in 1853, The Grier School has continuously operated with the mission of helping young women develop their intellectual, athletic and artistic talents. The school motto, "Sana Mens In Corpore Sano," (Sound Mind in a Sound Body) captures the spirit of the school. A sesquicentennial celebration in June of 2003 celebrated the school's 150 years of history.
Currently the school enrolls 212 students from 22 states of the USA and 8 foreign countries. Interestingly enough, the state with the most students enrolled is California with 16 students! 95% of Grier's students reside beyond a 100 mile radius of the school so numerous activities are organized each weekend to make it truly a full-time boarding school experience. Grier is a private school, operated as a non-profit foundation under the direction of a board of trustees. This school is authorized under Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant students.
